“How do I sign that?!?” Tackling interpretation in the science classroom
Workshop Presented in ASL
Presented by Scott Cohen
9:00 AM - 3:00 PM (0.5 PS CEUs)
This workshop will be presented virtually using the Zoom platform.
Interpretation can be challenging in the science classroom. Students accessing direct instruction and interpreting services is a complex task. However, much of the science learned in school relies on students communicating and listening to ideas presented by teachers and peers during science lessons. This workshop will introduce you to the basics of science education, such as Three-Dimensional Learning (3DL) - a national teaching framework in science classrooms, and its components as well as the existing resources in scientific-ASL lexicon to help you develop better nuances of interpreting in the science classroom. You will develop understanding on how you could address some of these challenges through collaboration with teachers and students in the classroom you work in to create more inclusive science learning for deaf students.
